Outside of U.S.A.

Well we finally got some stuff from outside of the United States.  Pictures from Germany can be found here.

England, London

All transport in the London area is managed by Transport for London, however, all bus, tram, and tube operations have been privatized.  Text by R. Mullins.

This is in the London Transport Museum, and is an example of a stop from the 1920's.  Picture & text by R. Mullins.

For a lot more pictures from London and other parts of England, follow this link.

Canada

This is one of the new signs from OC Transpo in Ottawa.  Yes it is bilingual.  Picture courtesy of C. Leech.

More pictures from the land north of the United States can be found here.

Beijing, PRC

Here are a few shots from Beijing provided by that globe trotter A. Finch.

There are more pictures from this globetrotter found here.

Bangkok, Thailand

Various forms of transportation found in Bangkok.  Thanks to Al Finch for the pictures.  The picture top left is a Sky Train station, on the right is a genuine bus stop.  More pictures from Bangkok can be found here.

France

Believe it or not, this bus stop is in Paris, France.  Picture by C. Hobbs.

More pictures from France can be found here.

Bahamas

Okay, if there is a bus, you gotta have bus stops.  This bus was tracked down by that intrepid hunter R. Berger.

Costa Rica

Okay, that world famous bug hunter (M. Isaak) took some time while traveling between the bug hunting grounds and the airport to capture a few bus stops.  Hey, some of these were captured from inside the bus.

Scott Station - McMurdo

Okay folks, believe it or not, and you better because I have proof, there are bus stops on Antarctica.  The American base at McMurdo (Mac Town) operates shuttle buses that connect them with the New Zealand station near by (Scott Station) and the airfield.

This is the stop at Scott Station, yes it is chained to the ground.  Picture used by permission of S. Childress.

Bus with an Attitude.  The famous "Ivan the Terra Bus".  The tires are size 66x43x25.  Picture this one pulling up to your stop.

Yes, the standard Econoline chop job, well almost, these look like they are ready for a Monster Truck rally.

Greece, Athens

I'm sorry, I do not read Greek so I cannot translate what is at right.  (Okay, I have been informed that the translation is:  Athens Urban Transport Organisation (OASA))

Some bus stops from the Athens area.  Pictures provided by C. Augenstein.

Japan

A picture of a stop in Yamaguchi, Japan.  Borrowed from a web site somewhere.

Kirkenes, Norway

This stop is located near the town of Kirkenes, Norway.  They have used the bucket from an old Excavator for a shelter.  Hey, as long as the wind is not blowing directly into it, it does provide shelter from the wind.  This can be very useful since the town is north of the Arctic Circle.

The drivers seem to be kind enough to let the nutty bus fans have a clear shot at the shelter to take pictures.

Dublin Bus - Dublin Ireland

Pictures taken by Mister Tim while on vacation.  A sign and an information sign in Dublin.

Bus Eireann - The rest of Ireland

The Bus Eireann stop at Bunratty Castle.  Again this picture was taken by Mr. Tim while on vacation.

A stop in Cork captured by Mr. Tim.

One style of bus they operate.  Found on their WWW site.

Jamaica - Kingston

That's it, stop on the wrong side of the street.  Oh well, what do you expect for another part of the former British empire.  Picture courtesy of David Led.

More pictures can be found here.

Belgium

This stop is located at the intersection of Rue Franklin/Franklinstraat and Ave. Michel-Ange/Michel Angelo Laan, served by routes 21 (to NATO) and 28 (to Konkel).  This is a typical bus stop in the residential areas – the yellow pole has the stop name, the routes, and a timetable.  Note the "BUS" painted on the street to indicate no parking.  Picture & Text by R. Mullins.

Budapest Villamos

Eurostar

Okay, I know it is not a bus.

A picture of the interior. Note that the seat cushions cannot be used as a floatation device.  Picture by R. Mullins.

A Eurostar train in Waterloo International Station. This train is on its way to Paris.  Picture by R. Mullins.

Turkey

A friend of mine's parents went to Turkey and all I got was some pictures of some bus stops.  I mean they didn't even pack me home a Tee Shirt.  :-)

The two pictures on the left are from Istanbul (formerly Constantinople, Nova Rome, Byzantium).  The picture on the right is from Antalya.

Seriously, thanks to the Isaaks for the pictures.

Czech Republic

Today I am posting you a typical bus stop in the town of Pisek in South Bohemia. This stop is off the main street in a quiet square ( sorry cannot remember the name !!) The bus is the oldest in the fleet of CSAD Pisek who run the town public transport services on behalf of the town. It is a 1985 Karosa B732. The regular fleet is made up of Mercedes Benz low floor buses which are two-three years old.

Second photo is of my village. My castle is hidden by the trees, but if you are able to click the button in the bottom right of the picture to enlarge, you can see part of the house among the brown trees which are chestnut trees and the leaves had changed colour. The photo was taken in autumn 2002 from a light aircraft....not mine !!

Roma, Italia

Roman Bus Stop.  More pictures from Italy can be found here.  You will also see pictures from Florence, Pisa, Lake Como and Venice.

Lugano, Switzerland - Pictures & text by C. Hobbs

Route #90 is a bus route operated by the Società navigazione del Lago di Lugano (providing ferryboat service on Lake Lugano).

Most (if not all) TPL stops have ticket machines. (Passengers are expected to buy tickets before boarding). The machines take Swiss Francs, Euros and credit cards.

stop is shared with the Swiss Post Office bus service (Autopostale).

A final note from C. Hobbs:  That's all folks. Hope everyone likes the Italian bus stop pix!

Sample TPL (Trasporti Pubblici Lugano) bus stops. (ed:  Actually real stops, not samples.)

Here are a few buses (gotta love that Mercedes, huh?).

"Tourist Train" bus service

City of San Miguel de Tucumán, province of Tucumán, Argentina

The location is the City of San Miguel de Tucumán, province of Tucumán, Argentina.

The controlling body is the Dirección de Transporte Público de la Municipalidad de San Miguel de Tucumán, it is the S. M. de Tucumán City DoT; however the signs are made and installed by the Dirección de Tránsito (Traffic Dept) with the overview of the urban planning office.

Route 101 stop is at Monteagudo street; Route 8 stop is at Córdoba street, the Post building is in the background; and the Route 9 sign with the derelict "No Parking" sign is at Entre Ríos street.

Warszawa, Polska- AKA Warsaw, Poland

A recent bus stop photo from Warszawa Polska (a.k.a. Warsaw Poland).  Submitted by T. Rhéaume.

Durbin, South Africa

Revised:  September 6, 2006

Four of the photos are of the transit center in the heart of Durban, South Africa. One shot includes a bus. Unfortunately, it was in the middle of the day so there isn't quite as much activity. I wish I could've taken a ride somewhere on the bus but they discourage tourists from riding around on the bus or trains. Crime is so rampant they have a fear of having something happen to tourists. They even have people watching cars on the street.

The other picture is a picture of one of the bus stops. Looks like any bus stop in this country. They operate a lot of jitney service. These mini-vans get loaded up pretty full and it is not regulated so they are not all that safe. Accidents are quite common.  Pictures & text by P. McGregor.
